再扣除柴油机飞轮以外的转动惯量后,其剩余部分,由柴油机飞轮来补足。对系列柴油发电机而言,飞轮惯量的设计,除考虑整机需要外,还要考虑尽可能减少飞轮的规格品种,以方便生产管理。从上面的计算可见,通过公式计算所得整机转动惯量,是达到一定回转不均匀度所需的转动惯量,在工程设计中,一般应使机组整机转动惯量达到并略大于计算值。这样,为减少飞轮的配置品种提供了可能,即对整机配置惯量差别不大的机型,可以采用一种飞轮。
