为了降低生产成本，近年来，有人镀铬时省去了镀铜、镀镍不足，直接在基体材料上镀铬。用这种简化工艺镀出的铬层，虽然从外光上看不出什么问题，但镀层的使用性能降低，主要表现为镀层的耐腐蚀能力下降、结合力不高，一旦出现表面破坏，可修复性差（常常是把破损部位修好了，在破损部位周边的铬层再次出现脱落。对于局部破损（压坑、划伤）的镀铬件，近年来有人采用JLT-5188K系列冷焊机，金属缺陷修补机先填坑（如补焊、钎焊、冷焊等），后电刷镀铬的办法修复。
