无源核子料位计是一种被动测量仪器，不需要人工放射源，充分利用自然环境中广泛存在的微量天然放射性核素所释放的γ射线、X射线，以及剧烈燃烧、强光子轰击等激发条件下，所释放的X射线。在仪器测量范围内，当物料数量发生变化时，射线强度也成规律性变化。无源核子料位计根据射线强度的变化，测量物料的高度及位置。
