电磁流量计主要用于测量电导率≥5Цs/cm的液体的体积流量，一般情况下一体式的电磁流量计的防护等级为IP65，根据标准GB4208-84和国际电工委员会标准IEC529-76关于电工电气产品外壳防护等级规定的标准为：

IP65：为防喷水型，电磁流量计传感器外壳允许水从电磁流量计的传感器的任何方向对传感器喷水，喷水的压力在30Kpa,出水量为12.5L/S，距离为3米。
IP67：电磁流量计传感器可用于短时间内浸在水里，
IP68：为潜水型-在一定的压力下适用于长期工作于水中或者地下，此时电磁流量计的传感器与显示部分分离，要做成分体式电磁流量计，但必须强调电磁流量计的防护等级要求。

一般情况下防护等级应根据实际情况来选择，传感器要求装在地面以下、经常受水淹的情况下应选择IP68，传感器安装在地面以上的应选择IP65、IP67。任何情况下电磁流量计的显示部位是不能用水或者进入水中的，如此会导致电磁流量计的损坏。
